Introducing Race2Stanford The Detour!
With the Hemel & Aarde road now undergoing maintenance, which will make it even more tri friendly, we’re switching up the date and route for the 2022 event. Here’s everything you need to know about this exciting development:
We have applied to host our 'R2S detour' race on the 17th September 2022, on what is possibly the most scenic and inviting route in SA, if not the world! That timing fits in nicely after Durban Ultra and Peoples Tri, before World Champs and then heading into Mossel Bay. Get ready for spring and a stacked 2022/3 tri season!
We have requested to start in Gordon's Bay to enjoy a protected swim with a vast transition area (think back to SA Champs in the 90's and Ironman 2000/2001), then the undulating bike leg will take you from Beach Road onto the magnificent Clarens Drive along the ocean shoreline and beneath the mountains, passing the quaint holiday villages of Rooi Els, Pringle Bay, Betty's and Kleinmond. Only 730m of climbing and most often with a tailwind - it's fast. You'll make your way past Arabella and Fisherhaven to Hermanus, leave your bike in transition and enjoy a really lovely mix of magic road, trail and cliff path to finish in the iconic town of Hermanus.
We believe this will be the most beautiful ultra distance course on the planet! Plus we have fun family activities planned for an epic weekend away.
For those who haven't done it, this is your year to sample the R2S magic you may have heard about, without the pain :) We're giving you a sweet taste of the unique area and fun vibes before you take on the original course at the next Race2Stanford, once the Hemel & Aarde is re-tarred and Shaw's Pass is ready to roll up & over.
Our team is busy making it happen. Having spoken to most of the municipal departments, it's looking good. Once we have our permit, the only reason, by act of God, that we won't go ahead on race day is if the water is too rough to take water safety craft or for some reason the N2 is closed by authorities and Clarens Drive then becomes the only route between CT and Overberg.
The entry system remains open for registrations. As soon as we have further detail to share with you - location of transition, finer route & logistics details, etc - we will do so.
If you have any queries, please email Keri on race2stanford@electricink.co.za
