NEWS:

ATC Office Evenings
This evening (Wednesday) we will have an ATC Office Evening the Oceana Boat Club.  There will also be a club run starting at 18:00.  The ATC Office will be open before the run from 17:00 and again afterwards from 19:00.
 
ATC Sunset Team Time Trial
Planning is under way for the ATC Sunset Team Time Trial, which will take place on Wednesday 25 February 2015.  Please mark the date to participate and help out at our event.
 

RESULTS:

Congratulations to our Development team for the ongoing great results they are producing in the Spur Cape Summer Trail Series.  Last Wednesday, at the Contantia event, Dawood Goeiman was 2nd in the Junior category, Bruzano Britz 2nd in the Minimee category and Daniel Arendse followed in 3rd.  On Sunday in Grabouw Dawood Goeiman was 2nd in the Junior category, Bruzano Britz won the Minimee category and Daniel Arendse followed in 2nd.
 
At the Mountain Mill Mile in Worcester on Saturday, Jadon Wessels won overall in the 400m event and placed 3rd in the High School age group for the Mile.
 

TRAINING THIS WEEK:

SWIM:  The Canal Swim will be on Friday morning at 06:00.  Please arrive a bit earlier if you do not have your barcoded tag yet or if you would like to do a longer swim.
 
PLEASE NOTE that any member inviting a friend to try out the swim must please ensure that they register as a user on the ATC On-Line shop at Tri SPaza.  ATC Membership is compulsory for the swim and we can only allow non-members to try out the swim if they are registered on-line as this is where we keep emergency contacts details and where swimmers have to accept our terms and conditions.  We are still getting large numbers of swimmers and cannot afford the time to register non-members on the day.  On-line registrations must be done by 17:00 on the Thursday before the swim.  To register as a Tri SPaza user, please follow the link below.  All current ATC Members are already registered on Tri SPaza but if you have not yet paid the seasonal contribution for the Canal Swim, you can do so by also following the link below;
 
 
BIKE:  On Tuesday and Thursday mornings we will do a road bike ride from the Point Virgin Active at 05:30On Sunday morning we will do a 4 to 5 hour ride, starting from the Point Virgin Active at 06:00.
 
RUN:  Track will continue as per normal on Tuesdays at 06:00 in the morning and at 18:00 in the evenings.  Both sessions take place on the field below The Bungalow.
 
This evening, Wednesday, there will be a club run from the Oceana Boat Club, starting at 18:00.  The ATC Office will be open before the run from 17:00 and again afterwards from 19:00.
 

EVENTS:

The Western Province Aquatics Open Water Championships take place this weekend in the Eikenhof Dam, Grabouw.  There are events ranging from 400m to 10 Kms.  Qualifying swims at one of the past OW Challenge events is mandatory for all events except the 400m.  All entries close at noon on Thursday.  Visit www.wpaquatics.org or www.justsports.co.za to check for final confirmation of events and starting times.
 
The Spur Silvermine XL Trail Run and Relay is on Saturday with options to do the 34 Km run as a solo runner or in a team of two (20 Km + 14 Km).
 
Good luck to all the members taking part in the 99ner Cycle Tour and Mountain Bike Challenge, taking place on Saturday in Durbanville.
 
The inaugural Bridgetown Summer Triathlon, takes place on Saturday along the banks of the Berg River at the Bridgetown Camp Site, about 18 Kms north-east of Moorreesberg.  It is about 1.5 Hours from Cape Town.
 
FUTURE EVENTS:
Entries for Ironman 70.3 Durban are now open. 
Entries for the Peninsula Marathon close at midnight on Sunday 8 February.  There are no late entries for this event.
 
Discovery World Triathlon will be sharing the new route for this year’s ITU event in the next couple of days.  Amongst other well-known faces in the South African triathlon scene, STeve Attwell is introduced this month as an ambassador for the event.  As Head Coach at Embark Triathlon Training, STeve put together a 3-month training plan for both the Sprint and Olympic-Distance groups.   Embark’s coached group training for INTERMEDIATE Triathletes, aiming to improve their times at the ITU WTS event, started last night.  If you are looking at improving your overall racing, then join the program ASAP.  Contact STeve@embark.co.za for more information on any of these programs.  The world series event takes place in late April and is set to be the highlight of the Triathlon season in Cape Town.
