Global Running Day – ATC 5K Club TT
Thank you very much to all the members who supported our Global Running Day celebration on the 1st of June!  It was a busy evening and coincided with our monthly 5 Km Time Trial, so we’d like to extend a special word of thanks to the members who helped with the timing:  Garth Dorman, STeve Attwell and Paul Bredell.  Back at GPCC the following members prepared delicious Boerewors Rolls:  Eckhard & Kelly Scholtz, Anthony & Gemma Dean, Jacqueline Vockins and Lara Browne.

In the 5 Km TT, Rohan Meyer ran a blistering 17:24 and Hanmarie Stadler was the fastest lady in 18:43.  Horatius Feni, from Kelfords, surprised with an 18:53 and won a R500 bonus from his employer for running a sub-22 5K.
Junior Beukes (19:49) was the fastest junior (U/14) in the 5 Km distance.  His fellow U/14 ATC Kids did the 3 Km TT, which was won by Tamaryn Beukes (15:52), followed closely by Jenedean Rudolph (14:54) and Shaun-D Beukes (14:58).  Six year-old Gabriel Godfrey opted for a 2.1 Km 5 lapper, which he completed in 18:34, with dad, Brent Godfrey, in tow.

Wendy Van Vuuren won the Kelfords Ford-for-a-Month and Gordon Bishop won the pair of New Balance shoes.

Our next Club Time Trial will take place on the 5th and 6th of July.  All the time trial results can be viewed on our Facebook Page or on our On-Line Newsletter Page.

Tri SPaza at ATC Container
The ATC Container is open for club admin and gear purchases before and after the Track sessions on Tuesday mornings and Wednesday afternoons.  We now have Credit and Debit Card payment facilities in the Container, which can be used for all purchases or membership payments.

We have finally received stock of ATC Running Vests and Tights and now have all ladies and gents sizes available.

Embark Winter Training
There is no reason to lose motivation over winter, as in September there are two great ultra-distance Triathlons, and a City Marathon, to train for!  Embark has training programs running through winter for the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon (18 Sept), Ironman 70.3 Pula (Croatia, 18 Sept) and the MiWay Cape Ultra Triathlon (Theewaterskloof, 25 Sept).  All these programs are currently running.
Not up to an Ultra distance event yet?  Then have a look at the Beginner Triathlon (Freshpak Clanwilliam Triathlon) or Half Marathon (Outsurance Gun Run, 9 October) programs.

Moms2Tri
Embark has launched a new group training program, designed to help moms get fit over the winter months. The program will be offered in Cape Town and Johannesburg and isn't just for new moms but all ladies looking to get fit in a fun and safe environment.  It follows a safe and gradual schedule slowly introducing all the Triathlon disciplines through a series of workshops and controlled workouts.

The Johannesburg sessions will start on Wednesday 15 June at 09:00, at the Specialized Store in Melrose Arch and will be facilitated by qualified triathlon coaches, STeve Attwell and Mike Moriaty, and coordinated by super-mom Lisa Hellmann.

The Cape Town sessions will start on 7 July and will be facilitated STeve Attwell and Ceejae Miller, who is qualified in pre and post-natal exercise prescription.

Personalised Training
Embark now offers personalised training programs for athletes looking for a program that adapts as the athlete progresses.  This will encompass athlete specific programs built upon results from regular personal performance assessments with access to a dedicated coach who will monitor and analyse your progress.  The program will be adjusted to ensure that you perform at your level best, and avoid injury.

For more information on any of the Embark programs, visit www.embark.co.za or call STeve on 0827399010.

Member Personal News
Congratulations to Marco Stichini, who got married to Andrea Mulholland on the 28th of May.

RESULTS:  Details here...

World Duathlon Champion!
Richard Murray is the new Duathlon World Champion after he won the ITU Duathlon Championships, held in Aviles, Spain, last weekend!  Richard broke his collarbone in a crash during the WTS Golf Coast Triathlon in April and the decision to do the Duathlon World Champs came after a lot of hard work during his recovery and being able to run and cycle without any problems during this time.  Richard also won this title as a junior.  We trust his swimming will recover just as well and in time for the Olympics in Rio later this year!

Comrades
Congratulations to all the runners who completed Comrades 2016!  Special mention must go to Hudson (James) Chevallier and Brett Glen (VOB), who pushed Chaeli Mycroft in her wheelchair for the entire race.  Raising funds and awareness for the Chaeli Campaign, hope in motion, the team made history as the first wheelchair to complete this event.  We conducted a quick survey amongst our Comrades runners to see how pushing a wheelchair would have affected their race.  You can view their comments as well as full results of the survey, our On-Line Newsletter Page.

Congratulations to the following with their Bill Rowan Medals:  Marilyn Fischer (07:45), Brendon Leask (West Coast) (07:55), Guido Tagge (08:03), Victoria Reuvers (08:30), Juliet Evans (08:40) and Juan Wolmarans (08:52).

All the ATC’ers results appear at the bottom of this email.

Future Events:

Winter Solstice
Next Tuesday, 21 June, is Winter Solstice.  Keep an eye on the ATC Events Calendar for details of two traditional solstice events happening in Cape Town.

Maritime Solstice Swim (21 June):
In Maritime Tradition it is customary to celebrate the Winter Solstice in port, by jumping off the bow of your ship and swimming to the transom or stern. In naval terms this works out as a distance of about 75 metres. The Waterfront has continued with this tradition by hosting an annual 50 metre swim in the Marina Canal. This swim is literally just a dash across the Canal.

Polar Bear Swim (25 June):
This is an annual swim at Clifton 4th Beach.  You dash into the water and stay in as long as you like.

Freshpak Festival – Clanwilliam

Heads Up!  Entries for the Freshpak Fitness Festival have opened and the Triathlon will sell out fast.  To Enter, Visit:  http://www.freshpakfitnessfestival.co.za/

Our next monthly update will be sent after the Knysna Oyster Festival and Big 5 Sports Challenge.  Good luck to all the athletes taking part in this festival.
