Supported Ride Tomorrow – Peninsula Marathon – Collect your license today - Cape Mile

NEWS:

12 team victories at the Discovery Get Active Weekend (amper skoonskip)!  A 13 Mile Swim!   14 Podiums and counting…!  16 ATCer’s selected for the WP Triathlon Team! At least two new-borns!  A SA Champ and Record holder!  This, and more, will be in our monthly newsletter next week, Ironman training permitting.  For today we just want to update you on the long ride happening tomorrow and some of the events our members will do this weekend (while probably collecting more hardware).

ATC Office

We are receiving a lot of emails from members asking where they can collect their licenses and gear from.  So, firstly, a reminder, that the ATC Office is open in the ATC Container on Tuesday mornings from 06:00 till 07:30 and on Wednesday evenings from 17:00 till 19:30.  You can also collect licenses and gear at the Friday morning canal swim or any other scheduled training session.  The information on our website is current and (mostly) accurate.

ASA Licenses

Please note:
YOU MAY NO LONGER WEAR YOUR 2016 ASA LICENSE.  Please collect your 2017 license from us before your next event.  For runners doing the Peninsula Marathon, we will be at the ATC Container this evening from 18:00 till 19:00.
YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO WEAR BOTH 2017 LICENSE NUMBERS.  You can put the event race number over the ASA Bib, as long as it does not cover the sponsors’ name at the top of the bib.  See the image further down in this email.

TRAINING:  Details here...

Supported Training Ride - Saturday
Tomorrow we will have a support vehicle accompany us on our training ride.  All members are welcome to join in but please bring R50 to contribute towards fuel and the driver
Please arrive at the Paddocks Shopping Centre by 05:30 and be ready to ride at 05:45.

We will ride from the Paddocks through Durbanville, past the Phesantekraal Airfield, along the R312 and R44 to Wellington and on to the base of Bainskloof.  (Stronger riders can go up the pass)  We will re-group here to form small groups who can stick together for the expected headwind back to Durbanville.

The support vehicle is the ATC Ranger.  We will provide the contact number at the start of the ride.  For now, please ensure that you have ATC Admin (0733083127) on WhatsApp.  The driver will go ahead of the group and wait at key points:  Nitida Farm and the petrol station close to the Durbanville Medi Clinic (on the way out).  The driver will then roam on the long stretches to Wellington and will be at the base of Bain’s Kloof in time for the first riders.  Same on the way back.

If you would like to do 160 Km, you can do another 10 Km on the cycle paths towards Blouberg.
If you are doing the brick, bring a lock to secure your bike during the run.  The support driver will leave after the 140 Km section so there will not be anyone watching the bikes.

EVENTS:  Details here...

Peninsula Marathon
Good luck to all the runners taking part in the Peninsula Marathon and Half Marathon on Sunday!  It is a flat, but most likely windy, route with a sting in the tail.  So save some legs for the rollies into Simon’s Town.

Sanlam Cape Mile
On Sunday is the Sanlam Cape Mile, or five miles for some.   Good luck to all taking part.  Some ATC’ers are doing all five Mile waves to raise funds for various causes, or just because they can.  Amongst others, Jaqueline Vockins, Karen Graaf, Vivienne Williams and Robynne Williams are doing 5 x Cape Miles to teach children to swim.  This is in aid of swim coaching at the Phillipi Children’s Centre.  To view details of this cause, or to donate, please visit:  https://www.backabuddy.co.za/champion/project/5-x-cape-miles-to-teach-children-to-swim2016
The ATC Gazebo will be at the Sanlam Cape Mile swim so come and say hi in-between waves.

SCR Biathle Series
There are three events in the SCR Biathle Series still coming up this summer.  These will take place on the Friday evenings of 17 and 24 February and 3 March.  The events will be held at the Rustenburg Girls High School in Rondebosch.  A Biathle is an official Run-Swim-Run event with distances ranging from 200m/50m/200m to 1Km/100m/1Km, in accordance with age groups.

Cape Town Cycle Tour Entries
There are still charity entries available for the Cape Town Cycle Tour (Argus).  Entries, in aid of St Luke’s Hospice, are available for R1500, which can be paid off over time.  Reply to this email if you are keen.

Bike Fix

With the Cycle Tour around the corner, bike shops are getting busy and it will become difficult to get a booking for a bike service.  Bike Fix, the mobile bicycle maintenance company who assisted us on Saturday before the Discovery Triathlon, will collect your bike, do the necessary and deliver it back to you.  This is done at a preferential rate to ATC Members.   For more details or to book a service:  www.bikefix.co.za  info@bikefix.co.za

Have a great weekend!
