 Knysna Big 5 – SA DU Champs – NO Canal Swim on Sat
 

NEWS:

Knysna Oyster
The Knysna Big 5 Sport Challenge is well under way with two of the five events done.  Great conditions prevailed for both events but that didn’t make them any easier.  The mountain bike was spectacular but tough with lots of climbing.  The swim took place in pleasant 16 degree water.  There has been no official announcement of GC or club challenge results but ATC is well positioned with four members in the top ten of the Challenge and three in the Lite. 
 
Personal News:
Congratulations to Mike and Amy Browne on the birth of baby Ben on 1 July.
 

RESULTS:

Congratulations to the WP Duathlon Team for the excellent performance at SA Duathlon Championships in Bloemfontein this weekend!  Of the 19 WP team members who participated, 16 received medals.  We will publish detailed results once we receive this from WPTA / TSA.
 

TRAINING THIS WEEK:  Details here...

SWIM:  Please note that there will be NO CANAL SWIM THIS SATURDAY, 11 July.  This is due to most of us being in Knysna for the Oyster Festival and Forest Marathon.  We will assess the situation with development in the parking area and will advise on canal swims going forward next week.
 
BIKE:  There are no club rides scheduled for this week.
 
RUN:  Track will be at the Green Point Cricket Club on Tuesday morning at 06:00 and again at 18:00.

The Oyster Festival and Big 5 Challenge continues this week with the Featherbed Trail Run on Tuesday, XTERRA on Thursday and the Forest Marathon and Half on Saturday.  There is also the Knysna Houtkapper Trail Run on Sunday.
 
The Athletics SWD’s running development week starts today (Monday) with the Cross Country and Team Relays at Steenbok Park.
The Street Miles take place tomorrow (Tuesday) from the Knysna Marathon Club House and Fun Runs follow on Wednesday afternoon from the Oyster Festival Grounds.
 
The PUMA Nightcat Dash takes place on Wednesday evening from the Pezula Field of Dreams.
 
On Saturday is the Bastille Day Trail Run in Franschoek.
 

FUTURE EVENTS:

SA Mountain Bike Championships
The SA MTB Championships, taking place on 18 July in Stellenbosch is set to be a world class event according to Cycling SA’s article:  “While course builders add the finishing touches to the fresh course built into the mountains above Stellenbosch University, the tertiary institution has been hard at work creating a race village similar to those commonly experienced at European World Cups.
 
Upcoming Triathlons
Entries for the Clanwilliam Triathlon opened last week.  Entries for the Slanghoek Mountain and Road Bike Triathlons will open on 14 July.
 
Coronation Double Century:
