Canal Swim Changes – Ironman TriClub – Two Oceans Training Run
 

NEWS:

ATC is an IRONMAN TriClub!
Atlantic Triathlon Club has been approved by IRONMAN!  The next step is for you, our members, to create a profile on IRONMAN.com and generate points for ATC.  You can select ATC by clicking on the "My Athlete Profile" tab and entering “Atlantic Triathlon Club” in the drop down menu.
Once you have registered as a member of Atlantic Triathlon Club, you will generate points for ATC any time you do an IRONMAN or IRONMAN 70.3 anywhere in the world.  These points will go towards our TriClub Ranking.  You can also join the TriClub Connect Facebook group to learn about the IRONMAN TriClub program, our races, and just connect with other TriClub members.
 

RESULTS:

Congratulations to the following members who were selected to represent South Africa at the ITU Cross Triathlon World Championships, to be held in Sardinia, Italy, in September:  Robyn Williams (25-29), Helene Rabie (30-34), Vernon Visser (30-34), Douglas Burger (45-49) and Henry Wolstenholme (45-49).
 
It was a great weekend of racing for ATC at the Aca Joe Westcoast WarmWater Weekend in the West Coast National Park with superb water, weather and performances to match!  Congratulations to Stuart Marais and Kirsty Thompson who walked away with top honours for the weekend after winning the Ultra-Distance Road-Bike Triathlon on Saturday as well as the Road-Bike Triathlon on Sunday.  Jean De Villiers took 2nd in both these events.  JD Neill took 3rd on Saturday and 4th on Sunday whilst STeve Attwell followed in 5th on both days, to make sure ATC was well represented in the top 5 for the whole weekend.
Brenton Ashby won the Mountain Bike Triathlon on Saturday, Helene Rabie won the ladies MTB event with Xandri Haak in 3rd.
On Sunday Kirsty Thompson (1st), Nienke Van Schaik (2nd) and Candice Morrison (3rd) made a clean sweep of the Ladies Road-Bike Triathlon Podium.
Jeff Claessen won the Vets category in the MTB event on Sunday.
Jos Balk received the spirit of the weekend award for surviving an attack by an Eland and still completing both events.
 
Greg Goodall came 3rd In Lions Head Challenge Tame the Lion 22 Km Trail Run.  Lesyl Potgieter was the 1st Lady in the 12 Km Lion Cub run with Nicola Van Wyk in 2nd.
 
At the Around the Island Swim in Langebaan on Saturday, Jadon Wessels came 2nd overall and was the first Junior.  Emma Alsop came 3rd overall and was the first Lady home.
 
Nicholas Mortley was 2nd in the wetsuit category at the Shipwrecked 5 Km Swim in Blouberg on Sunday.  Nicholas will also be doing the Freedom Day Robben Island swim on 11 April and will again be swimming in aid of the NSRI’s Waterwise program.  The aim of this program is to make children aware of the dangers around water and teach them how to be safe in and near water and how to rescue their peers.  If you would like to donate to this cause, please email:  Michael.Mortley@standardbank.co.za
 
 

TRAINING THIS WEEK:

SWIM:  The Canal Swim will be on Friday morning, starting a bit later at 06:15 as it is now too dark at 06:00.  Please arrive early so that we can close sign-in by 06:00.  This will be the last Friday morning swim for this season.  There will be NO swim next NEXT FRIDAY, due to Ironman PE.  After Ironman we will move to the Saturday afternoon slot at 16:00.
 
BIKE:  On Tuesday and Thursday mornings we will do a road bike ride from the Point Virgin Active at 05:30This Saturday morning we will do an easy 2 to 3 hour ride, starting from Vida Camps Bay at 07:00.
 
RUN:  Track will continue as per normal on Tuesdays at 06:00 in the morning and at 18:00 in the evenings.  Both sessions take place on the field below The Bungalow.
 
Two Oceans Training Run
On Saturday (21 March) we will be running most of the Two Oceans Half Marathon Route.  We will start at 06:00 from the Parking area next to the UCT Rugby Fields (Two Oceans Finish).  We will head out along, but not on, the M3 and follow the route as closely as is possible and safe.  Please wear ATC club colours to make it easier for us to identify you amongst all the other runners training in the area.  The run will be approximately 20 Kms.
 

EVENTS:

The SA Masters Long Course Gala National Championships start tomorrow (Thursday) at Ellis Park in Gauteng and will run until Sunday.  Good luck to all the swimmers taking part!
 
The Cape Epic is ongoing and will finish at Meerendal on Sunday.  To coincide with the finish there will be a Kid's Funride taking place at Meerendal on 22 March with routes ranging from 400m to 3.4 Kms.
 
The Tyger Half Marathon takes place on Saturday at the Tygervallei Shopping Centre.  There is also the 15 Km Beesloop Farm Race, taking place near OverHex, Worcester.
 
The Lights By Linea Hero Challenge has hit the streets again and this weekend racing will take place in the Cape Town CBD on Saturday and in Paarden Eiland on Sunday.  This is criterium-style racing with riders racing laps for between 30 and 90 minutes before receiving the bell for the final lap.
 
The Stilbaai Triathlon, scheduled for Sunday 22 March, has been cancelled.
