NEWS:

We have received stock of ATC Running Vests and have all sizes available at R280 each.  Our wind / showerproof Pacmac has been replaced by the new ATC Gust, which is of superior quality and can be used for running or cycling.  The ATC Gust, as per the images further down, is R380 for members and R420 for non-members.

The ATC Office will be open in the ATC Container, at Green Point Cricket Club, on Tuesday morning from 06:00 till 07:30 and on Wednesday evening from 17:00 till 19:30

RESULTS:

Ironman Africa Champs:
What a day at Ironman Africa Champs in Port Elizabeth on Sunday 2 April!   The weather was as good as it gets in PE and of the best ever experienced at this event.  No wonder that records tumbled.  Still, it was an Ironman, and it was 226.2 Km and everyone who finished had to get through this distance.  Congratulations to you all!

Once again, the support at the ATC and Embark Gazebos was amazing and we’d like to thank all the supporters who cheered the Triathletes on.  For many, this was a major highlight on the bike and run laps.

Atlantic Triathlon Club won TriuClub Division II at the event, which doubled as a qualifier for European TriClub Champs.  We have therefore qualified for the European Club Champs taking place at Ironman 70.3 Barcelona, in May 2018!  We are also currently leading Division II in the overall TriClub standings Worldwide!   So we would like to thank all the members who signed up with Ironman TriClub under ATC.  All the ATC TriClub Members are listed below along with the points they collected for us so far in 2017.

Iain Mc Gregor (9:35) and Genelle Van Der Riet (2nd in 50-54 Category in a time of 11:11) were the first ATC Members (Male and Female, respectively) home, so are our Ironman Club Champs for 2017!

Iain Mc Gregor, Dean Hopf (9:47) and Rohan Kennedy (10:02) received slots to compete at Ironman 70.3 World Championships, to be held in Port Elizabeth in September 2018.

All the ATC Members’ Results are below and more detailed results can be viewed on our Results Blog.

SA Biathlon Champs
The SA Biathlon Championships were held in Paarl on Saturday, 8 April.  A Biathlon consists of a 1000m Track Run and a 100m Swim.  Vivienne Williams is the SA Champ in her age category, broke her own SA Record, was the top female point scorer and won the Victrix Ludorum Trophy.  Viv also received her SA Colours in Biathlon.

Roger Bezuidenhout is the SA Champ in the 40-44 AG and Esrie Loock-Bezuidenhout got a Silver in the 35-39 AG.

WTS Gold Coast
Richard Murray was second at the ITU WTS Gold Coast event, held in Australia on Saturday.  Our Pros delivered another proud moment for South Africa with Richard in 2nd, Henri Schoeman in 8th and Wian Sullwald in 9th.  In the ladies race, Gillian Curr Sanders was 9th.

TRAINING:  Details here...

It is mini silly season this week with the Easter Holidays so the only training sessions this week will be our two track sessions.

RUN:  Track will continue as per normal on Tuesday mornings at 06:00 and Wednesday evenings at 18:00.

EVENTS:  Details here...

Two Oceans Runs
Two Oceans kicks off with the Expo this Wednesday followed by trail and road runs on Friday and Saturday, ranging from 56 metres to 56 Kilometres.  The fun runs and trail runs take place on Friday with the big events, the Half Marathon and Ultra, concluding the event on Saturday.
ATC will have about 200 runners taking part in the various events and we wish all our runners the best of luck!

Our gazebo will be set up in the finish area so come around for a snack after your run.  Two Oceans organisers have made drastic changes to the club gazebo plot allocation this year and we were fortunate enough to get a spot next to the A-Field seating stands, on sites 69 & 70.

Mad2Run
Kelly Styane, James Dillon, Justin Parker and Jessica Guilfoyle have already started their run… in Johannesburg!  They are part of the Mad2Run group who is running from Johannesburg to Cape Town in aid of the MAD Leadership Foundation.  MAD2Run is an annual 7-day, 24-Hour, relay-style running adventure from Johannesburg to Cape Town with 2 teams of 12 runners each.  They started on Friday 7 April and each runner will do about 200 Kms by the time they arrive this coming Friday.  For more details and to donate, please visit:  www.mad2run.co.za

Future Events:

Entry Fees for Ironman 70.3 Durban will increase at midnight tonight (Monday), by R850.

A reminder that the substitution process for the Comrades Ultra Marathon closes on Friday, 14 April.
