Ironman 70.3 Barcelona

The tour to Barcelona was a fantastic experience.  Callela is the perfect place for a 70.3 event with great conditions in the Mediterranean for the Swim; a beautiful, tough, hilly and fun (for some), Bike route; and a flat Run route along the beach.

As with 70.3 Buffalo City, the bike route makes this one of the more difficult 70.3 events to complete.  The down-hills are fast with a couple of sharp bends making it easier than Buffalo City for riders with downhill skills but more difficult for riders without.

The EMEA Ironman TriClub Championships made the event even more special as we had the opportunity to parade our club colours and SA Flag.  And finishing third in Division II of this Championship was the cherry on top!  We would like to thank all the members who raced for Atlantic Triathlon Club at the event.  All members who completed the event contributed points towards our overall standing for the year and ATC is currently leading Division II.  For the EMEA Championship, the top five point-earners at this specific event is taken and ATC collected 15284 points, to take 3rd in the competition.

Congratulations to Dean Hopf, who was second in the 30-34 AG.  Tracy Markham, formerly from ATC, now living in Holland, won the 30-34 AG.  The following members received slots to race in the Ironman 70.3 World Champs, to be held in Port Elizabeth in September:  Paul Hilliard, Douglas Burger, STeve Attwell and Gert Wilkins.

All our members’ results and the points they earned are listed below:
