 Half Ironman 70.3 Entrants – Canal this Friday – Ironman Training
 

NEWS:

On Sunday is the Half Ironman 70.3 in East London and for many Triathletes the main event of the year.  Well over 270 ATC’ers and Embarkers will constitute almost 10% of the field this year and we wish everyone safe travels this week and a great event!  The list of ATC Members participating, along with their race numbers, can be downloaded from the lonk below.  Please let us know if your name isn’t there so we can update our records.
 
You can SMS your athlete’s race number to 39408 to track their progress on race day.  The service is available on all South African mobile networks and costs R15.00 per race number that you want to track.  Please note: ONLY SMS the Race Number and SMS only the race number.
 
If you still need gear for the event, please come along to the Oceana Boat Club this evening (see below) or let us know and we can bring something through to East London for you.  If you have applied for a Triathlon License but have not received your TSA Number yet, please let us know ASAP.
 
ATC Office Evening
A reminder of the ATC Office Evening today (Wednesday) at the Oceana Boat Club.  We will have running licenses and ATC gear available there from 17:00 till 19:30.
 
Embark Training for Ironman
Next Tuesday (27 Jan) Embark will have their orientation evening for the Full Ironman program commencing the following week.  It is a nine week endurance based program, specifically designed for to give you a great Ironman experience.  If you have entered for Ironman Port Elizabeth, feel free to come down and listen what it’s all about.  Orientation will start after the track session, at around 19:00.
 

RESULTS:

Congratulations to all the members who finished the Red Hill Marathon and Classic on Sunday and welcome to all the new members we spotted along the route in ATC Running kit.  It’s a tough one to pick as Two Oceans / Comrades qualifier but worth the pain.
 
At the Dirtopia Resolution Trail Run Kate Lewin was 2nd in the 12 Km run with Nicola Van Wyk in 3rd.
 
The ATC Development boys had a great start to the Spur Cape Summer Trail Series in the Tygerberg Nature Reserve when Dawood Goeiman won the Junior category (2nd overall), Daniel Arendse won the Minimee category and Bruzano Britz followed in 2nd.
 
Over the holidays Andrew Le Roux sneaked in a win at the Sabrina 10 Km Trail run Plettenberg Bay.
 

TRAINING THIS WEEK:

For the rest of the week we will be more active in East London than in Cape Town so please note the schedule below.
 
SWIM:  Thanks to some additional help from members we will still have the Canal Swim this Friday morning at 06:00.
On Saturday at 08:00 we will swim from Orient Beach on a section of the 70.3 Swim Course.  Look for the ATC and Embark Umbrellas on the beach.  The course is also open on Friday if you are already in East London on Friday morning.
 
BIKE:  NO more rides scheduled for Cape Town this week but if you are looking for company on a ride, email us and we will put you in contacts with smaller groups training on the weekend. 
On Saturday we will ride the 70.3 Run Route in East London.  Meet us at the Garden Court Hotel at 10:30 for an easy ride.
 
RUN:  We will be back on Track on Tuesday morning at 06:00 and at 18:00 in the evening.
 

EVENTS:

SWIM:  On Saturday the WP Masters Long Course Gala will be taking place in the Paarl South Pool.
 
BIKE:  On Sunday the Bouckaert Soenen Road and Mountain Bike Funrides take place in Paarl.
 
RUN:  Tonight is the Dan Luyt 15 Km Nite Run in Durbanville.  On the weekend there is the Moreson Iron 15 K in Malmesbury and the Jackal Trail Run near Herbertsdale.    The Dirtopia French Flair Trail run takes place on Sunday on the L'Avenir Farm on Route 44, near Stellenbosch.
