NEWS:

HopePHIL Fund Raiser
Would you like to know how many rolls of Duct Tape it will take to stick STeve Attwell to a wall?  Come and find out at the HopePHIL Pub Garden Sports Fundraiser, to be held at the Green Point Cricket club on the 24th of September, National Braai Day.  There will traditional sports such as Potato Sack Races, Egg and Spoon sprints, 3 Legged Races and more.  Braai fires will be provided and there will be a cash bar.  The event is being organised by a couple of ATC’ers and Embark athletes in aid of covering some of the escalating cancer treatment costs of Philippa Elford.  Please assist us by getting together a team for the Sports and buying raffle tickets for STicky STeve and other great prizes!  For details please visit the Event Page on Facebook.

TSA Registrations
We’ve had confirmation that the TSA licensing fees for the 2015 / 2016 season will remain the same.  R450 for a Senior Racing License and R 280 for a recreational license.  Junior fees remain at R350 for a racing license.  We will publish the complete procedure next week but in the meantime you can purchase your license from our on-line store at Tri SPaza.   Please Do NOT register directly through the TSA website.  WP triathletes will have to register through the Provincial (MOBII) system.

GPCC Summer Bar
The upstairs bar at the Green Point Cricket Club will be open every evening during summer, except on Mondays.  Great specials will be offered on Thursday evenings with lucky draws and free Springbokkies!  For weekly details chat to the barman after track on a Tuesday or follow:  GPCC Bar FB Page

RESULTS:

Everesting Hall of Fame

On 21 August Jean De Villiers got himself into the Everesting Hall of Fame by riding up Kloof Nek 33 times!  After fourteen hours and 40 minutes in the saddle, with 223 Kilometres in the legs, Jean had ascended a total of 9207 metres to surpass the height of Mount Everest (8848 m).   Jean rode from Rafikis to the lower Cable Car Station on Table Mountain and back.  It was the first time that this route was chosen for this challenge, managed by Hells 500, and to our knowledge, the first time anyone has done this climb 33 times in one day.

Trans-Baviaans
Since we mentioned this event in last week’s newsletter it has come to light that Nienke Van Schaik and Kasha Dickie were in the team who came 3rd in the Female category of the first race.  The De Villiers cousins, including Jean and Charl De Villiers rode for the 2XU Team and finished the first race in a time of 9:50.  Unfortunately the results published by event organisers only include team names and not the rider names.  So we apologise if you did this ride but was not mentioned in our newsletter.  Please let us know if we missed your result.

Ironman 5150 Bela Bela
Congratulations to Nienke Van Schaik, who won the ladies 35-39 age category at the Ironman 5150 Bela, which took place in August.

You can tell its spring by the sudden increase of events!  A quick glance at the ATC Events Calendar will reveal no less than six running and six cycling events this weekend, as well as the start of the Clifton First Sunday of the Month (1SOMS) Summer Open Water Series, now on the summer start time of 09:00.

The second event in the Green Forest Series is on Saturday at D’ Vine Estate in Paarl.  The 21 and 10 Km runs will start at the top of the Du Toits Kloof Pass (you will be taken there by bus), meander through the Hawequa Forest, Protea farms and Olive orchids and finish on the D’ Vine Estate.  You can also visit the D'vine Expo after the run. There will be live music by a number of bands with the aim of creating awareness for the 60 Hours for 60 Kid’s campaign.  Prize giving for the run will be at around 11:30 and there will be tons of awesome prizes from generous sponsors.

Cape Multisport Club is hosting their annual Bike and Tekkie Challenge on Saturday at the Jan Kriel School in Kuilsriver.  The Tekkie Challenge includes a 10 Km Battle of the Sexes run with the ladies getting a 5 Minute head start.  There are also the 5 Km and 4 Paws Fun events.
The Mountain Bike Challenge offers a choice of 47 Km or 20 Km Routes.  Late entries for the events will be taken on Friday at the school from 12:00 to 18:00.  On race day you can enter for the runs but not the Mountain Bike events.

Other Mountain Bike events this weekend include the AL-2-HEZ Challenge in Riversdal, the Backsberg Challenge in Paarl and the Staalwater event in Caledon.  If you would prefer to ride, rather than run, the Cellar2Cellar, you can do that too.  Just enter on the morning at the event.

The 2015 Tour de Worcester has been cancelled due to road works in and around Worcester, but will be back on the calendar in 2016. To take its place, PPA has organised an alternate ride to kick off the Spring Funride season.  The Scenic South It is a 55 Km ride starting from the Paul Greyling School in Fish Hoek on Sunday at 08:00.
