ATC Awards ’15 – Legends Challenge

NEWS:

ATC Awards ‘15
The annual ATC Awards Ceremony and Year-End Function will take place on Tuesday, 1 December 2015, at the Mykonos Taverna in Sea Point!  This authentic Greek tavern will prepare a three course meal for us.  The set menu will include a selection of Greek starters, a choice of Chicken, Calamari, or Mykonos’ signature dish, Kleftiko Lamb Shank, as mains and seasonal fruit for desert.  Mykonos is fully licensed and there will be a cash bar for drinks.  Should you prefer to bring your own wine, the corkage fee will be R45 per bottle.

In between this fest we will proceed with recognising ATC’s members for outstanding performances and service to the club.  And perhaps break a plate or two!  We are calling on members to please nominate fellow members for the Formal Awards listed below:

Performance Awards:    Rookie of the Year / Best Beginner, Most Improved Athlete, Best Performing Swimmer, Best Performing Junior, Best Female Athlete, and Best Male Athlete.

Service Award:  Our most coveted award, Most Devoted Member.

Members and Non-members can also be nominated for Informal Awards, such as our Supporter of the Year or Special Service awards.

And don’t forget the Fun Awards, which allows you to make up your own award to remind us of a peculiar behaviour or blooper incidence that, no doubt, occurred during the year.

All the details about the event and links to RSVP and Nominate can be found on the Awards 15 Events Page on our web site.

ATC Legends Challenge
At Awards ’14, Gert Wilkins was “de-throned” as ATC Legend, by Alisha Myers, for the first time since the inception of the ATC Legend’s Challenge in 2008.  This challenge is ATC’s version of a “Lang Asem” award, recognising members for consistent participation in events throughout the year.  The Legends season runs from October till September and this year members can claim points for up to 24 events completed during this period.  Pick your longest endurance events and lodge your claim as, the longer and tougher the event was, the more the points will be.

For more details and to claim your points, visit the ATC Legends Page.

RESULTS:

ATC 5 Km Time Trail:
This month we had our 5 Km Club Time Trial on the Green Point Athletics Track for the first time and witnessed super-fast times!   Bernard Griesel posted the fastest time of the day with a 17:34 whilst Megan Mackenzie was the fastest lady in 19:20.  Our course was measured in accordance with published distances for the 4th Lane (the lane we use) on a standard 400m track.  We’ve had varying readings from GPS watches and had to adjust the Tuesday morning run times to match the longer course we used for the Wednesday afternoon run.  We’ll get accurate measurements so that next month’s time trial will be exactly 5 Kilometres and give us a base for accurate month-to-month comparisons.

All the results from the November ATC / Embark Time Trial are at the bottom of this email.

Brian Curtis Mile:
Congratulations to the following members who placed at the Brian Curtis Mile last weekend:  Amy Barnes was the second lady in the 3 Km Swimsuit category followed by her sister, Kiara Barnes, who won the Swimsuit Girls category.
Flora James was the first lady in the 3 Km Wetsuit with Julia Le Roux in second.  Stewart MacKay was the second male in the 3 Km wetsuit category.

In the 1 Mile event, Jadon Wessels won the Swimsuit Boys Category and Amy Barnes was second in the Swimsuit ladies category.

In the 800m event, Amy Barnes won the Swimsuit Ladies, Jadon Wessels won the Swimsuit Boys and Cameron Clarke won the Male Wetsuit Category.

TRAINING THIS WEEK:  Details here...

SWIM:  The Canal Swim will be on Friday morning at 06:00.  We have settled in at the new starting location and it is running smoothly.  Please be reminded to arrive before six and to keep noise levels down.  The sign in closes at 06:00 sharp and members arriving after six will not be allowed to start the swim.

BIKE:  On Thursday morning we will do a road bike ride from the Point Virgin Active at 05:30.  There will be no ride this weekend due to the Double Century.

RUN:  We’ve now had our first track session and a Time Trial in the new Green Point Athletics Stadium and the blue track is just awesome to run on!  The time-slots remain as Tuesday mornings at 06:00 and Wednesday evenings at 18:00.  You can only gain access to the stadium with an ATC barcoded tag and the gates close at 18:00.  Please arrive a bit earlier if you do not have a tag yet.

This Wednesday evening is the Twilight Team Run, so you may face some extra traffic if you are traveling through town for the track session.

There will be no trail run this week.
