Embark Half Marathon Programs
Embark had some great results at the Outsurance Gun Run held on Sunday, with a lot of runners doing their first half or setting new PBs.  The 12-16 week programs for the various half marathons are proving very successful for both beginners and seasoned runners.  This is the rest week, but next week sees the start of the training for the Ocean Basket Bay 2 Bay that will take place on 10 January 2016.  You can now register for this program at:  www.embark.co.za

WPA AGM & Election
ATC wishes to welcome and congratulate the new WP Athletics (WPA) President, Board and Commission Members, who were elected at the AGM, held last Tuesday:  Lester Cameron (President), Jakes Jacobs (Vice-President), Michael Schouw (Internal), Allen Barnes (External), Malcolm Salida (Finance Officer), Andy James (Cross Country Chairperson), Pieter Vorster (Race Walking Chairperson), Francois Gouws (Road Running Chairperson), Mariana Meyer (Track & Field Chairperson).

ATC Container
Since our move to Green Point Cricket Club earlier this year, a considerable amount of effort and money has been spent on preparing the container for storage, office and shop space for the club.  We have made extensive use of unemployed casual labourers in the process, not only providing them with a valuable source of income but also adding to their skills.

We have also received some generous donations, contributing towards a great facility for the club.
·         Mark Sochen, kindly arranged for free delivery of the container, through transport company MSC Logistics.
·         Jon-Luca and Davide Del Fante, from Delmar Decorators, donated the special Marmoran Heatguard paint used for the top white coat.  This will reduce the heat inside the container during summer.  Jon-Luca also provided valuable advice during preparations.
·         Jonathan Bernstein and All Phase Electrical supplied and installed all the electrical and light fittings throughout the container.  They also fitted the dry wall door separating the storage and front areas.

Our sincere thanks go to the above members and organisations for their contributions, which amounts to several thousands of Rands worth of equipment and labour.

Member Personal News
Congratulations to Mark Sochen and Claire Kaufman Sochen on the birth of their baby girl, Chloe Zola, last week.  When breaking the news to us at the Gun Run on Sunday, Mark tried very hard to be his reserved self but we could clearly see his chest bursting through his vest!  We wish the young Sochen family all the best.
Congratulations also to Craig Jacobs and Libi Roos, who’s baby girl Sophia Lilly, was born on the 10th of October.

RESULTS:

Dominique D’Oliveira was the second lady at the Jeep Warrior Race, which took place on Sunday on the Meerendal Wine Estate.  Dominique is currently in Cincinnati for the Obstacle Course Racing World Championships, taking place this weekend.

TRAINING THIS WEEK:  Details here...

SWIM:  The Canal Swim will be on Friday morning at 06:00.  Parking and space at the start is extremely limited and we need to keep noise levels to a minimum as the start is in a residential area.  You are advised to park in the Portswood parking garage, opposite the Aquarium, and walk to sign in desk.  Sign in will take place just outside the parking area, which we used for the Saturday swim over the past couple of weeks.  Look for the ATC Ford Ranger bakkie, which will be easy to spot.

BIKE:  We will do our Mountain Bike ride on Thursday morning from the Point Virgin Active at 06:00.  On Saturday morning we will do a long slow ride for Double Century training.  This ride will start at 06:00 from the Point Virgin Active and will take in all the hills on the Peninsula.  We will do around 140 Kms and ride for 5 hours plus.  You are welcome to turn back earlier for a shorter ride.

RUN:  This afternoon (Wednesday), track will be at the GPCC at 18:00.  This will be our time slot going forward for summer.  The morning session will remain on Tuesdays at 06:00.
On Thursday we will do our trail run from the Green Point Cricket Club at 18:00

A reminder that the Voet van Afrika, scheduled for this weekend has been cancelled.  Organisers of the Renosterbose Extreme have put their trail run forward as an alternative.  This event, which also includes a Mountain Bike Race, takes place in Barrydale.

Future Events:

TSA Registrations
We met with WP Triathlon and MOBII yesterday in an attempt to streamline the registration process ahead of the upcoming Slanghoek and Jailbreak events.  Members who have paid ATC for their 2015-2016 TSA License by this Friday, 16 October, will not have to buy a day license for Slanghoek.
However, if you have not specifically ordered your TSA license from ATC, through Tri SPaza, we are unaware of your intentions and cannot process your application.

Iqlea events have advised that they will keep on-line entries for the Slanghoek Triathlons open until Monday and that substitutions will be allowed.  Please email Niquita Chamberlain at entries@iqela-events.co.za for details.

Jailbreak entries opened yesterday.  If you do not have your TSA license number yet, but have applied, or intend to apply for this season, you do not have to specify your TSA Number, or buy a day license, when entering Jailbreak on-line.  Just leave the license number field blank, select your Club and do not add a day license to your basket.  However, you do have to apply for your TSA license in good time before the event.
