The Beast Trial Run

On Sunday, a couple of members tackled The Beast, which, as its name implies, is a tough trail run on Table Mountain with options for 50 Km and 30 Km. 

Juan Carstens was 9th overall and won the 30-34 AG in the 50 Km event.  Darren Behrendt was second in the 35-39 AG and Jeannine Ruffles was second in the 50+ AG.

The Moses Mabhida Stadium makes for a truly stunning finish to the Comrades Ultra Marathon!  Not without logistical challenges though, as runners must scale another massive flight of stairs, 3 levels, to exit or visit the club areas.  But arriving in the stadium, after 90 Kms on your feet, with crowds cheering must be amazing.

Ironman 70.3 Durban

Congratulations to all Triathletes for a successful Ironman 70.3 in Durban.  This event turned out to be tougher than expected with the wind being a real nuisance on the bike leg.  Still, a great day out for Atlantic Triathlon Club with our win in Division II of the Ironman TriClub league.  That’s 3 out of 3 for the Ironman African Series, giving us a healthy lead in this Division worldwide.

Ironman 70.3 Barcelona

The tour to Barcelona was a fantastic experience.  Callela is the perfect place for a 70.3 event with great conditions in the Mediterranean for the Swim; a beautiful, tough, hilly and fun (for some), Bike route; and a flat Run route along the beach. 

As with 70.3 Buffalo City, the bike route makes this one of the more difficult 70.3 events to complete.  The down-hills are fast with a couple of sharp bends making it easier than Buffalo City for riders with downhill skills but more difficult for riders without.
